One New York Democrat isn’t a fan of celebrity candidates.

Christine Quinn, a former City Council Speaker for New York City and the first openly homosexual person to hold that position, criticized Cynthia Nixon’s candidacy for Governor of New York, labeling the “Sex and the City” star an “unqualified lesbian.”

Quinn made the remarks in a New York Post interview the day after Nixon announced she was running.

“I’m surprised by this race. It’s a flight of fancy on her part,” the former speaker said of the celebrity’s decision to challenge incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary.

“Gov. Cuomo’s accomplished [a lot] including a $15 minimum wage, opposing fracking and she’s on record supporting the governor on marriage equality,” Quinn argued.

“Why are we having this primary?” she added. “Democrats should be united and focusing on winning control of the state Senate and taking back the House of Representatives.”

The politician took aim at Nixon for supporting Bill de Blasio instead of her in the 2013 New York City mayoral race.

“Cynthia Nixon was opposed to having a qualified lesbian become mayor of New York City. Now she wants to be an unqualified lesbian to be the governor of New York.

“You have to be qualified and have experience. She isn’t qualified to be the governor.”

She lauded the stars’s accomplishments as an entertainer and activist, but maintained that she lacks experience to be governor.

“She’s an accomplished actress, a supporter of political causes and that’s a good thing. Participating in rallies is important.

“But she’s never run an organization. Being an actress and celebrity doesn’t make you qualified for public office. This is a time to move away from celebrity and toward progressive leadership.”

Nixon was one of several celebrities who spoke in January at the People’s State of the Union, a left-wing response to President Trump’s State of the Union address.

The actress dismissed Quinn’s criticism, asserting the race is about “the corruption in Albany. It’s time for an outsider. I’m not an Albany insider.”

“Her being a lesbian and my being a lesbian,” are not the issue, Nixon concluded.
