President Trump’s Secret Service personnel experienced brief alarm Monday morning.

The driver of one of the vans used by the White House press pool was detained Monday when Secret Service discovered a firearm in his bag shortly before he was to transport reporters from the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla, The Washington Examiner reported.

According to a pool report, the “[d]river said he forgot to leave the firearm inside his personal vehicle before entering van.”

The incident occurred as members of the press were about to leave Mar-a-Lago for a holding lounge at Palm Beach International Airport.

“Screening took place off club grounds in parking lot across the street and roughly an hour before press vans joined up with presidential motorcade,” the report read.

A White House staffer drove the van and picked up reporters because the driver was still being questioned by Secret Service agents and was not allowed on resort grounds.

The driver said he had forgotten to leave the weapon in his vehicle. Secret Service noted he was in legal possession of the firearm.

In a statement, the Secret Service said “At no time was any Secret Service protectee in danger or impacted,” USA Today reported. “All Secret Service security measures worked.”

Shortly after, a second press pool driver “grazed” a car in the Mar-a-Lago parking lot, but the damage was minimal.

The screening took place an hour before the press vans were scheduled to join the presidential motorcade.

President Trump was at his Trump International Golf Club property in West Palm Beach on Monday.

Last week, the president arrived in Florida to visit victims and first responders from Wednesday’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, which left 17 dead.

In light of the attack, the president urged Senators on Monday to reconsider a bill that would tighten the nation’s background check system.
